Misty Copeland x Egal
June 20, 2016

Egal is a new dance / athletic wear line  by Misty Copeland. If you don’t already know who she is, well… I suggest you educate yourself a bit. Misty dances for the American Ballet Theatre, which is one of the 3 leading classic ballet companies in the U.S. She is also the the first African American to be promoted to principal dancer.

She is currently in Romeo + Juliet and has Swan Lake with many other performances under her belt. If you’ve seen the ad campaigns for Under Armor, that my friends, is her.

Strong, powerful, hardworking, determined, and dedicated, Misty began this line as a representation of all these things and more. With an amazing team of people behind her, Misty was able to create a line encompassing form, function, and fashion for not only the dancer (ballet, modern, etc) but also for athletes of all types. If you think her stuff looks dope, (which they are), be my guest in  “athleisurizing” the line as well.

Egal came to Lemonade Creative to help create content and design/develop a beautiful site which I was very fortunate to play a major role in (but that’s not what this is about). I was also brought on to do makeup for their shoot. Rather than hiring models to look like dancers, Misty and her team stayed true to the authenticity and high regards of dance, as they sought to find dancers to model the clothes.

The shoot took place at Flat White Studios with:

Talent 1: Sadiya Ramos
Talent 2: Kim Van Woesik
Stylist: Donald Hicks
Makeup: Monica Nguyen

We did the makeup no makeup – not too done up, but enough look, keeping it casual while not trying too hard. Very lose hair, nothing tight or slicked back, making sure to stay away from the ethereal , tutu, elegant pretty look we all seem to associate ballet with.
