If you don’t know who James Vincent is, then you need to just google him. Hah.
He taught the last summer class for TPG (The Powder Group). This was a 6 week program and can I just say, I only went to 1 (which was actually the LAST ONE) ! I kind of want to kick myself in the ass for it. I don’t know how I managed to overlook the class but it’s no surprise that I did. Lets just say I have one crazy schedule.
It was my first TGP event and actually one of the most inspiration makeup classes I had ever taken. Aside from learning a bit of his techniques, it was very personal. He had taken a different approach to the class. It was comic and just very real and down to earth. When it comes to TGP he is like the Father to all of us artists. He wants us all to succeed not only as artists, but as individuals, as people.
One of the biggest things I learned was understanding how to create our own style and that we don’t have to know everything (as we shouldn’t) and we don’t have to be experts at all the different makeup techniques. We also shouldn’t feel like we have to look a certain way , the way social media has portrayed makeup artists to be. The expectations of social media have set standards for a handful of artists in the industry; that makeup is supposed to be done “this way” or “that” and that we must look “this way” or “that”. It was such an interesting take on where makeup is headed and hearing it from someone who has been in the industry for so long gives it so much validity and opened my eyes up to something I never saw.
Anyways, enough babbling, I just wanted to share my first TPG experience ???? <3
